Today is International Women's Day! This morning, Archives staff celebrated by doing some field collecting.

In honor of the holiday, Hershey's Chocolate World distributed special edition "HerSHEy's" Milk Chocolate bars to their first 1,000 visitors. So, in order to document this event, we took a field trip and collected our bars! The chocolate will be removed from the packaging (and enjoyed by staff 😋) and the packaging will be preserved. By taking these steps, The Hershey Company's celebration of women all over the world will be documented for future generations.

How are you celebrating #InternationalWomensDay? #CelebrateSHE

Golden Almond is one of our favorites! Check out the history of its predecessor, the 50-50 Almond bar, on our website: https://hersheyarchives.org/encyclopedia/bursting-with-almonds-hersheys-50-50-bar/It's National Almond Day! Almonds have been a staple ingredient in Hershey's product line since 1908, when the chocolate company introduced Hershey's milk chocolate bar with almonds. Fast forward to 1977, when Hershey's Golden Almond Bar debuted, replacing the 50-50 Bar, which was introduced in the 1920s. (Find out more about the 50-50 Bar here: https://hersheyarchives.org/encyclopedia/bursting-with-almonds-hersheys-50-50-bar/). Hershey's '77 ad stated "Gold is always in good taste." Indeed, the Golden Almond Bar is in good taste -- and it still tastes good! Hershey's Golden Almond Bar continues to be a favorite worldwide. Ad courtesy of Hershey Community Archives. ... Today is National Dark Chocolate Day! These days, you can enjoy a Hershey’s Special Dark bar to celebrate. But did you know that the first solid chocolate products that Milton Hershey created were actually “dark” chocolate—not his famous milk chocolate?

When Milton Hershey began selling chocolate commercially in 1895, you could purchase Hershey’s Vanilla Sweet Chocolate—which resembles what we think of today as dark or semi-sweet chocolate. It wasn’t until 1900 that the first Hershey’s Milk Chocolate bar was introduced.

Ever wonder what we do here at HCA? Here's an example...

With the sad announcement of the death Dawn Wells, a patron reached out saying they recalled Ms. Wells appearing at a show at Hershey Theatre. We did the research and found this 1981 program confirming their recollection.
